2nd Annual Unofficial Art Fair

The Lexington Arts Council is holding their annual art fair at Woodland Park Saturday, August 19- Sunday, August 20th, 2006. Black Swan Books is unofficially participating in the 2nd annual hosting of artwork by employees Bethany Rose and Kelly Rayens during the Art Fair.

Kelly Rayens, 19, has worked at Black Swan for one year during the school and summer breaks. Working primarily in beadwork, Kelly designs and constructs original jewelry. Her goal with every piece is to make each design unique.

Bethany Rose, 25, has worked at Black Swan part-time for two years. This year she plans on unveiling her new medium of combining pen & ink drawings with worked mirrors. She will also have charcoal drawings and sculpture on display.

The Bookstore will be open during the regular summer business hours of 11:00AM- 5:30PM on Saturday the 19th and from 1:00PM- 5:00PM on Sunday the 20th. Both artist will be available during these times.

We can offer a new Wendell Berry broadside poem entitled V. from Sabbaths 2002 with a wood engraving by Wesley Bates. The broadside measures 9 3/4 x 14 1/2." It is printed on Gampi Torinoko paper with black ink and the engraving is printed separately in gray ink. The broadside is published in a limited edition of 175 copies and is signed by Wendell Berry. Black Swan Books Promotes Local Artist

The Lexington Arts Fair, held at Woodland Park August 20th and 21st, brought in numerous artist from throughout the country. Black Swan Books extended this warm enthusiasm of supporting the art community by promoting the art of Black Swan's own Bethany Rose. Mainly focusing in charcoal medium she attempts to explore the concepts of self-discovery in chiaroscuro. She also dabbles in pen and ink, sculpture, etching and multimedia. Her art will be displayed throughout the store until the end of August.
